Video Editor
Cut the narrative films and commercials that come out of the studio
Absurd is hiring a Video Editor to cut the work that comes out of our studio: narrative films and commercials for clients, and our own original projects. The edit is where these films succeed or fail, and you'd own that room.
The material is unusual. Some of it is generated, some of it is shot on camera, and plenty of it is both. So the job changes often: new tools, new workflows, new kinds of footage. We want someone who picks those up fast and treats it as part of the craft rather than an interruption to it.
Over time you'd likely learn to generate material yourself. When a cut needs a shot that doesn't exist, the fastest editor here is the one who can go and make it.
What you'd do
- Edit narrative films and commercials from first assembly through final cut.
- Work with directors end to end, from the first look at the material through delivery.
- Pick up new tools and workflows fast, and eventually generate the shots and elements a cut is missing.
- Carry several projects at once, across a range of formats and genres.
- Tell the product team what the edit actually needs, and bring the solution with the problem.
What we're looking for
- Story instincts: rhythm, performance, structure, and the judgment to cut.
- Fluency in the professional tools: DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, and Media Composer.
- A real grasp of sound design, mixing and color, and a working knowledge of VFX.
- Curiosity about AI generation, and the willingness to learn it as part of the job.
Every role is full-time, in person, and based in Los Angeles.
